Resumo

For more than sixty years, 1CrMoV steel has been widely used in the manufacture of turbine rotors for power generation due to its excellent mechanical properties, in particular, its high creep resistance. The favorable conditions for the use of this steel in turbine rotors are also directly linked to the technological development of the steelmaking process. The remelting step was inserted in the 1CrMoV steel manufacturing process in the 1960s with the promise of reducing the amount of harmful elements aiming at improving the steel properties. In this work, the microstructural effects that give 1CrMoV steel a superior creep resistence after the step of vacuum remelting in electric arc furnace were studied. A careful characterization of this steel was performed under the conditions as received and after the remelting step, including scanning electron microscopy, SEM and SEM-FEG analysis, chemical analysis, elevated and ambient temperature tension tests, Creep tests, Vickers Microhardness tests and Visible Light Microscopy. These results contributed to map how the vaccum arc remelting does influence on the microstructure of 1CrMoV steel and its properties at high temperature.
