O conhecimento dos profissionais multidisciplinares acerca da amamentação na “transgestação”

Abstract

Breastfeeding in Trans Pregnancy is a rarely explored topic. It involves complex aspects, diverse bodies, and redefines ingrained cultural norms through the lens of freedom of access to parenthood, reproductive rights, and inclusive care. The lack of information and the unpreparedness of healthcare professionals contribute to exclusion and hinder access, understanding, and the effectiveness of the right to life. Objective: To analyze the perceptions of multidisciplinary professionals at a Federal Maternity School in Rio de Janeiro regarding breastfeeding in trans pregnancy. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, conducted at a Federal Maternity School in Rio de Janeiro certified by the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI). Qualitative data were collected in February 2025 through a form distributed via Google Forms. The study included only professionals working in the prenatal outpatient clinic with more than five years of experience at the institution as public servants, in the fields of nursing, nutrition, physiotherapy, psychology, and medicine. Data analysis and processing were carried out through content contextualization and interpretation. Results: A total of 13 participants responded to the form, aged between 34 and 56 years. Of these, 92.3% were cisgender women, 84.61% self-identified as white, 46.15% as Catholic, and 69.23% held a master’s degree. Five thematic categories emerged: Singularities and Challenges: Health Professionals’ perspectives; Lack of Knowledge, Inexperience, and Professional Insecurity; The (Lack of) Care: Techniques and Behaviors in Trans Pregnancy and Breastfeeding; Communication Barriers: A Gender-Based Perspective; Dimensions of Care and the Experience of Breastfeeding. Conclusion: Most professionals expressed perceptions marked by insecurity, lack of preparation, and the need for further training. The study highlights the need to break gender paradigms, promote inclusion, and expand trans representation in healthcare.
