Escrevivências e Quarto de despejo: quem irá contar essa história?

Abstract

This thesis is based on the works of Carolina Maria de Jesus and Conceição Evaristo. These writings are justified by being yet another instrument to demonstrate that a text that respects academic rigor can be permeated by Escrevivências. The objective is to analyze the writings of the aforementioned authors, identifying the multiple forms of violence to which black bodies are subjected, supported by the methodological perspective of Escrevivência itself, supported by the descriptive study of the qualitative research proposed by Minayo. The hypotheses that I intend to prove are based on the assumption that the writings of Carolina and Conceição are presented as a healing process, being impregnated by concepts from libertarian and decolonial theories, such as: mutual aid, horizontality, self-government, freedom, respect for the other, coloniality of being, knowledge and power, institutional racism, literary racism, Colonialist Necrophilia Othercide and historicicide. The theoretical framework is based on theorists: a) decolonial, such as Aníbal Quijano, Grosfoguel, Maldonado Torres, Enrique Dussel and Maria Lugones; b) black feminist theorists, such as Sueli Carneiro, Lélia Gonzalez, Beatriz Nascimento and the Americans, bell hooks, Patrícia Hill Collins and Angela Davis; c) libertarian theorists, such as Kom’boa, Kropotkin and Moraes. We will use Quarto de Despejo as a concept, which is traversed by disposable, dirty places and bodies, which serve as deposits for the remains that are not used by society, a dumping room that goes beyond the physical sphere and permeates the dumping that black bodies observe in racist looks, gestures, speeches, in short, which is explicit and implicit in their daily lives. I will use healing as a concept, based on bell hooks’ idea of love as healing. Healing as a sense of returning to the past, of reestablishment, of overcoming, of celebrating our elders, is presented implicitly and explicitly in the text. A healing that transcends the self and permeates ancestry, because, when one heals oneself, all ancestors are healed. Finally, as a conclusion, in the context of the writings brought by Carolina Maria de Jesus and Conceição Evaristo, I emphasize writing as a healing process.
