Teresina, cidade verde: para além da imagem poética, uma necessidade

Abstract

The vision of man over nature has been dynamic throughout history: sometimes fear, sometimes domain, sometimes including, sometimes human exclusion. Among the components of the natural environment, the vegetation is one of the elements that remain in the human imagination in the face of urbanization and has contributed to the (re) configuration of cultural / aesthetic / landscape values / ecological front of the natural / environmental assets to be preserved in cities. The city, while unfinished, is a space where the changes are most noticeable and, at the same time, visible impaction of human activities on nature. However, it is noted that environment the existence of spatial components which support the establishment of urban images such as vegetation. In this environment constantly (re) construction, socio-spatial transformations do not always mean a break with the spatial identity arises, for the most part, the consolidated images in the social imaginary. In this context, the aim of this article is to discuss the ideas and actions around the image of the city of Teresina - as Green City "title" given by the poet Maranhão Coelho Neto in 1899. This analysis will be done through the bibliographic references and observations imagetic urban Teresina, seeking out the origin and consolidation image of Piaui capital associated with vegetation and at the same time, identify the actions taken to maintain that image in the urban and social imagination. Finally, identify the challenges of maintaining this spatial image, despite the importance of vegetation to the quality of life and the urban environment, as the accelerated and urban sprawl by passing Teresina, since the mid-twentieth century, it is increasingly more consumer space and therefore vegetation potentiator reduction in urban areas.
