Amamentação: aspectos emocionais implicados em sua fisiologia

Abstract

Through a careful look at breastfeeding as a physical and psychological experience shared by mother and baby, this work aims to investigate the emotional aspects of breastfeeding for the nursing mother and the physical repercussions of potential conflicts experienced during that period. Using as a starting point the idea of breastfeeding as a form of communication, a concept first raised by Winnicott, I present a critical analysis of the conservative view about breastfeeding, so clearly expressed by many medical professionals, which values aspects related to maintaining the physical health of the baby through breastfeeding, to the detriment of matters related to specific emotional issues that may affect the woman - mother – nursing mother.
