Metamorfoses na cidade do Rio de Janeiro: Terreirão, de comunidade de trabalhadores agrícolas a favela

Abstract

It is in the search for the understanding of the space inherent to man, that the Community of the Channel of the Tachas (Terreirão), especially devise its singularity, that we will analyze in this work its genesis. The evolution of urban space in the city of Rio de Janeiro occurred from the center to the peripheries, according to the interests of capital. The last area to be incorporated into the urban network was the western zone, where the Recreio dos Bandeirantes neighborhood, which houses Terreirão, is inserted. It is intended to answer in this work when, how and why this locality changed from a community composed of agricultural workers to the largest and most well-structured Favela of Recreio dos Bandeirantes.
