Abstract

The research aimed to investigate the role of public power in the redefinition of the Brazilian urban network, in order to provide a greater degree of rationality to the national and regional economy, through urban and regional policies, focusing on certain public agencies of greater importance in this process. It also sought to clarify the role of large metropolitan industrial capital in local economic modernization and the restructuring of the labor market in certain medium-sized cities in the four states of the Southeast region.
