Resumo

This work aims to perform a comparative analysis on fixed and optimum beamforming techniques on a uniform circular array (UCA) using, respectively, Delayand-Sum (DaS) and Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) algorithms, applied to narrow and broadband simulated signals and to two data sets of a passive sonar system, which were provided by Instituto de Pesquisas da Marinha (IPqM). Such analysis will be based on the beampattern and the output beamformed signal generated by each algorithm, as well as on its performance on the directionof-arrival (DoA) estimation, in addition to the computational cost. At the end, it will be shown that, despite demanding longer processing time, when compared to DaS, the MVDR algorithm produces a response that simultaneously maximizes the energy in a desired direction and imposes nulls in interfering directions, which results in a high resolution energy pattern for DoA estimation.
