O Lugar da memória na cidade em disputa: caso-referência Hospital Colônia Curupaiti

Abstract

This dissertation examines the place of memory of people affected by leprosy who were compulsorily isolated in hospital cities. Using the Hospital Colônia Curupaiti as a reference-case, the research sought to contribute to the study of these spaces in their material and social dimensions, in light of Lefebvre’s triad of the production of space, the right to the city and social practices. The study aims to understand hospital cities beyond mere remnants of a hygienist “past”, treating them as living expressions of historically denied rights, in order to situate them within the debate on the urban health heritage and the right to memory. Within this interpretive framework, heritage is not static, but continuously transformed and continuously constructed, where the social practices emerge as forces capable of shaping pathways toward the collective construction of the right to memory.
