Manejo não farmacológico da dor em recém-nascidos submetidos ao exame oftalmológico

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of using 25% glucose associated with non-nutritive sucking in pain management during ophthalmologic examination. Methods: Cross-sectional, experimental, quantitative study with 56 newborns submitted to ophthalmologic examination. The control group (n=28) did not receive any intervention and the experimental group (n=28) received 1 ml of 25% glucose associated with non-nutritive sucking. Pain was assessed using the Neonatal Pain Assessment Scale. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Science program. Results: There was a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups regarding the assessment of the presence of pain during the procedure. Conclusion: the use of 25% glucose associated with non-nutritive sucking exerted an analgesic effect on newborns submitted to ophthalmologic examination. It is suggested the implementation of this or other non-Pharmacological measures as a routine in the performance of ophthalmoscopy.
