Abstract

The use of laser equipment in dentistry has been growing, especially in pediatric dentistry. Great possibilities involving the laser are incorporated into traditional diagnostic, treatment and prevention procedures. During its use, protective measures must be followed, minimizing risks to those involved. Understanding this involves knowing the physical properties of the equipment, as well as its operation and settings. With this in mind, the Study and Research Group on Laser in Pediatric Dentistry at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (GEPLOP-UFRJ), whose mission is to build and disseminate scientific knowledge, considers it important to inform dentists and pediatric dentists about guidelines for use safe use of low power laser equipment in pediatric patients, maximizing the benefits and reducing the risks of this technology.
