Resumo

This work analyzes the influence of overexcitation limiters (OELs) activation on power system’s dynamic security assessment. The work focuses on transient stability evaluation, taking into account different OEL models, including the takeover and summed types. For this purpose, the operating principle of the overexcitation limiters is described and their models detailed. Initially, the transient stability margin is calculated considering the two types of OELs. Then, the transfer capacity between two areas of a test system is analyzed, showing how this limit can be affected according to the OELs representation. After that, comparative security regions are mapped to the modified New England system. Finally, the dynamic security analysis is applied to a case of the Brazilian Interconnected Power System. The results have shown that the activation of overexcitation limiters can result in a significant reduction in the stability margin, transfer capability and dynamic security region.
