Assepsia ou renovação urbana: a ameaça de remoção da Vila Autódromo diante dos Jogos Olímpicos de 2016

Abstract

The dissertation presented here brings up the reflection about the urban renovation that is taking place in Barra da Tijuca district and Vila Autódromo as Rio de Janeiro appears as the Olympic Games headquarters city in 2016. The Olympic Games allows the creation of an atmosphere where certain speeches are created to justify urban politics such as the removal of slums in rich neighborhoods, or maybe on those that are financially important. Those actions favor certain groups in the city instead of the whole society. Rio de Janeiro’s metropolitan context will be described, as much as the creation of Barra da Tijuca neighborhood and Baixada de Jacarepaguá. The removal politics and slum upgrading politics through the XX century will be mentioned as well. Then, Rio’s Olympic Projetc description and some urban strategies such as urban marketing and entrepreneurialism will be quoted. Nowadays those strategies might be followed for the cities that want to get into the global system and attract cash flow and potential consumers. As a conclusion, the idea that the closer the private sector approaches the public sector, the resulting configuration space is uneven. This approaching happened before and the economic gains were not distributed equally.
