Futuros possíveis e imaginados: a distopia em terras tupiniquins

Abstract

This thesis discusses dystopia as a narrative genre, analyzing its main paradigmatic characteristics within the literary canon. The study starts from the relevant production of these narratives in the world literary scene, with a focus on the period between the two World Wars and the post-Second World War era, when dystopia was consolidated as a negative prediction of possible futures, marked by totalitarian governments. In addition to being a genre, dystopia also became synonymous with a failed ideal. The research analyzes the current relevance of the dystopian novel for contemporary criticism, highlighting the importance of these narratives in building critical thought about society. Beyond the international context, the work delves into the discussion of the presence of dystopia in Brazilian literature, investigating how the genre's characteristics manifest in national narratives, such as in Tupinilândia.
