The dynamic modulus (|E*|) and storage modulus (E’) have been used as important properties in the analysis and design of pavements from modern mechanisticempirical models. Although it is preferable to characterize these properties from laboratory tests, in some situations, it may be interesting to use empirical prediction equations based on the properties of the constituents of the mixtures to serve as support in pre-design and material selection phases. Aiming at the use of these models in the country, this study evaluates four models available in the literature. The equations of these models were calibrated considering information from 46 Brazilian asphalt mixtures to predict both |E*| and |E’|. Thus, the predictive potential of the models was evaluated by comparing predicted and laboratory values of these properties for 10 additional mixtures that were not used in the calibration. In order to demonstrate the applicability of the prediction models, the Layered Viscoelastic Critical Distress (LVECD) program was later used for the analysis of the service life of typical pavements whose surface layer were composed of three of the 10 mixtures used in the verification process of the models. The results indicated that the models have the potential to realistically distinguish performance from mixtures and can be used in conjunction with well developed and implemented structural analysis models as tools for estimating the mechanical behavior of asphalt mixtures.
