The expansion of resistance to tuberculosis treatment has undermined the global control of the disease, constituting a serious public health problem. Objective: To describe the profile of drug-resistant tuberculosis cases in residents of the city of Rio de Janeiro from 2013 to 2016, through a descriptive analysis of notifications of sociodemographic variables. Methods: This is a cross-sectional retrospective study, which will select all cases of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (DRT) diagnosed among residents of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro in the period from 2013 to 2016 notified in SITE-TB (Special Treatments Information System for Tuberculosis). Results: the pattern of distribution of drug-resistant tuberculosis cases in the city of Rio de Janeiro affects the young adult population, aged between 18 and 49 years (66%), in relation to skin color, the affected population is black and brown (64%), with four to seven years of schooling (39%). Characteristics related to resistance, 43% of the sample are multiresistant and with acquired resistance (68%). Conclusion: Family Health Strategy (FHS) for the active search for respiratory symptomatics, aiming at early detection of tuberculosis cases and adoption of appropriate treatment, lowering the treatment dropout rate to reduce resistance rates.
