Resumo

To demonstrate how the elaboration of the birth plan can be an important tool for health professionals in the provision of care so that professionals can provide better care in the peripartum period, as well as being an instrument of study, knowledge and choice for pregnant women about the various possibilities during labor, childbirth, immediate postpartum, first care of your newborn baby, as well as in cesarean section, if necessary in order to provide the search for your protagonism and improve satisfaction with the outcome of your birth experience. Childbirth in Brazil, before being institutionalized, was assisted by "midwives" or "comadres", within a family environment. With the technological evolution in the health area, childbirth began to be monitored in hospitals, by surgical means (cesarean section) and by professionals. With the considerable increase in cesarean sections in Brazil, movements in favor of humanized childbirth have emerged. Among other factors, the defenders of humanization claim the revaluation of birth in its natural character. In recent years, laws have emerged that guarantee rights to parturients at the time of childbirth and the birth plan can be used as a document that expresses not only these rights, but also the desire for an ideal birth and the return to the woman's protagonism. The doula, in this scenario, plays a fundamental role in raising awareness about the writing of the birth plan by the pregnant woman.
