Resumo

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the activity concentrations (AC) of radionuclides used in Nuclear Medicine facilities and their impact on the environment. Samples of sewage samples were collected in two sources: a Nuclear Medicine facility (NM) and an environmental sanitation station (ESS). Using two spectrometers [NaI (Tl) and HPGe], the presence of 131I was detected in the collected samples. In the NM facility, the sewage containing 131I requires adequacy in the use of the dilution to reduce the AC of this radionuclide for its release, while in the ESS, the AC values of 131I were within the exemption level. From the environmental point of view, the AC values of 131I at the ESS were inserted into the ERICA Tool Code to estimate the rates of absorbed dose in marine biota organisms. This study suggests that an environmental radioprotection model be proposed, based on the recommendations of Publication ICRP 103 (2007) and GSR-3 (IAEA, 2014a).
