20 anos de arqueobotânica no Brasil: uma disciplina em ascensão

Abstract

This volume publishes works presented at the 1st Brazilian Symposium on Archaeobotany, held between May 24 and 26, 2022 in an online format. It represents, however, much more than the minutes of a scientific event, intending, and succeeding, to mark the last 20 years of Archaeobotany in Brazil, a theme that gives title to the work. This first quarter of the 21st century is showing us that science, along with philosophical thought, is moving beyond the logic centered on the Europe-North America axis, in an exercise of remarkable resistance. Archaeobotany, crossing methods and theoretical approaches from historical and natural sciences - including questioning the boundaries between these areas - exemplifies this turmoil well. The pioneering work carried out in Brazil exemplifies this trend and this work illustrates this dynamic, but above all it projects the future. The upcoming holding of the II Brazilian Archaeobotany Symposium shows that the steps are being taken safely and confirms that we must be expectant of what else will be achieved by Brazilian researchers in the field of Archaeobotany in the coming years.
