This research explored new words that are derived from linguistic borrowing from English to Portuguese. More specifically, it sought to classify and explain the formation of borrowed words. For this, the corpora were collected through social networks, mainly via X, and were classified into two types: form borrowings and meaning borrowings. It is assumed here that the first type corresponds to words that have borrowed forms from English and have been phonologically adapted, such as the word tankar in "não tankei esse meme", since it derives several contexts in Brazilian Portuguese (BP) with vocabulary pieces of that language. The second type, on the other hand, corresponds to words that already have readings in BP and that import a special meaning from English grammar, resulting in an addition of meaning, as observed in the word cancelar in "cancelaram a blogueira por apropriação cultural". The theoretical framework is Distributed Morphology (MARANTZ, 1997), where all words are formed through derivation. The research hypothesis is that linguistic borrowings are not random concatenations of roots and morphemes, but exhibit a standard syntax-meaning interface behavior, just like any word in Portuguese. Therefore, it was observed that in form borrowings, the foreign word arrives in the target language as a root, and therefore, they are incorporated into List 1 of BP, since they may or may not maintain the original English contexts and may even derive unprecedented contexts. Regarding meaning borrowings, it was observed that the words showed variation between readings in BP due to the influence of English grammar, confirming Harley's (2014) hypothesis on the characterization of roots.
