Resumo

In a natural evolution of the theoretical and methodological territory in environmental studies, some concepts stand out in understanding the processes of landscape transformation. From this perspective, the concept of connectivity has proven appropriate for the study of urban green areas. The idea of connectivity, when approached from a perspective that values both cultural and ecological processes, can have its scope and effectiveness expanded. Understanding connectivity through its potential for mobility, not only of abiotic flows but also of socio-cultural flows, can bring new opportunities for landscape intervention at various scales. This work presents a proposal for the implementation of urban vegetation and reforestation for the city of Nova Iguaçu, in the State of Rio de Janeiro. In this proposal, the idea of green corridors is one of the strategic typologies in the search for connectivity in the landscape. The main objective of the Urban Vegetation and Reforestation Plan is to propose an expansion of vegetation located both in the urban fabric and in the nearby mountains. To this end, it relates urban rivers, open spaces, vegetation, and public uses. The implementation and expansion of urban vegetation were conceived as a green infrastructure, capable of bringing a multiplicity of environmental services based on the idea of connectivity. The spatial continuity built through the system of open spaces contributes to improving the dynamics of natural and cultural processes, as well as reinforcing the local landscape identity. The work initially presents a discussion on the concept of connectivity, with emphasis on the idea of green corridors. Then, it presents the concept applied in the Nova Iguaçu proposal, and its methodological approaches. The work concludes by presenting the current stage of the proposal, pointing to the role of public green spaces in the structuring of cities.
