Guia prático para o manejo odontológico do paciente com cirrose hepática

Abstract

Liver cirrhosis (LC) is the final stage of chronic liver diseases, can lead to organ failure and has several peculiarities that require the attention from the dentist. The aim of this academic work is to prepare a practical guide to dental management for the treatment of patients with LC in order to enable more assertive approaches and disseminate important information about these patients.This guide contemplated the most common complications of liver cirrhosis, such as ascites, hepatic encephalopathy and osteopenia, in addition to addressing the main oral manifestations of cirrhotic patients, such as lingual varicose veins, caries lesions and periodontal disease. Furthermore, dental management was also discussed, from drug prescription to changes in blood count and the risk of bleeding during surgical procedures. In conclusion, the main purpose was to inform and guide dentists about the dental management of patients with liver cirrhosis, in order to assist daily clinical practice and allow the best possible approach.
