A prática do psicólogo nos casos de perda fetal e neonatal em uma Maternidade pública de alto risco

Abstract

With the aim of understanding the psychologist's practice in cases of fetal and neonatal loss, this study listened to psychology professionals from a public high-risk fetal maternity hospital. Based on a semi-structured interview, the psychologists discussed their own actions in situations of loss. The records obtained from the interviews were analyzed in three thematic axes: 1) The times of work with death in the maternity ward in the psychologists' experience; 2) Times of loss and mourning in patient care; 3) Taking care of the baby's death in partnership with other maternity professionals. The results showed that the presence of death in the maternity ward impacts everyone involved in this situation. In addition Furthermore, the encounter with death and loss requires crossing working times for both psychologists and patients. It was highlighted that working in partnership with other maternity professionals is fundamental. With this, it was found that caring for death brings more strength to life and marks a crucial difference in the grieving process of all involved.
