This thesis analyzed the availability of bioenergy in Brazil to supply the energy demand of the transport sector in order to achieve the country Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC - Intended Nationally Determined Contributions) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Two study scenarios were established to analyze the Brazilian energy demand with the penetration of electric vehicles, and to evaluate the feasibility of using sugarcane biomass as the main energy source of this new demand untill 2050. The results showed that there is a potential for bioelectricity (186 TWh) composing the Brazilian energy matrix capable of supplying the demand of urban electric vehicles with the proposed raw material. Through the life cycle model (LCA), GREET, emissions from fuels/biofuels reached a paltry level (153,000 tons/year), with a difference of approximately 200MtCO2eq compared to 2014 emissions in the sector. It was concluded that the impacts are significant and that policies to promote electric vehicles should be accompanied by mechanisms to support and strengthen the sugar and ethanol sector and the use of more efficient bioenergy sources to meet the goals of the Brazilian NDCs, making it possible to follow and achieve the results. presented at work.
