Abstract
The purpose of this research is to compare desire in the poetry of Sappho of Lesbos and in the Argonautica by Apollonius of Rhodes. This analysis focuses on the word eros, but also covers the words hymos, pothos, and philotes, due to the variety of terms related to desire. For this purpose, two methodologies will be used: Histoire Croisée and the History of Emotions, also aligned with theorists of the anthropology of emotions. In this way, we will discuss the relationship between language, body, and emotion, as well as the vocabulary of desire, passing through the exposition of a field of seduction in ancient Greece, to understand how eros was transformed concomitantly with the historical and social changes of the Archaic and Hellenistic periods. We also analyze the gender and elements of seduction present in these works.
