Desacomodando a pós-graduação: propostas de mudanças

Abstract

What is the Graduate Education you want? What needs to change in Graduate Education? What changes in Master's and PhD programs do you propose? These were the key questions that motivated us to organize a series of international events focused on Graduate Education. There are hundreds of thousands of events around the world. So why organize others? We didn't want to simply organize another event that would charge participants a fortune and discuss a bunch of authors and texts without connecting them to the world's problems (and, in this case, the problems faced by master's and doctoral students). On the one hand, we wanted to come up with proposals for concrete changes based on people's experiences in/with postgraduate studies. On the other hand, we wanted a different format for the events. They should be based on listening, exchange and collective construction, rather than a parade of knowledge. This book was put together after the first event in the series (held in October 2023 in Portugal) precisely to present the participants' proposals so that together we can promote the necessary changes for the future of Graduate Education. We understand that academic events are just a step and not an end in themselves. Our idea is to create moments, spaces and build a network in which people feel good, safe and comfortable with each other, in order to propose and promote concrete changes in postgraduate studies. We know that we are dealing with controversies and issues that have been swept under the carpet. This only motivates us even more. We need universities that are critical and progressive not just in the content of what they teach, but in their day-to-day relations, in the proposals they make and the actions they take: in favor of fairer, more egalitarian and more supportive worlds!
