O pescador artesanal no contexto de implantação de grandes empreendimentos costeiros em São João da Barra/RJ: aniquilação anunciada?

Abstract

Observation and analysis of a peculiar moment in the economic history of the state of Rio de Janeiro. This is the resumption of large public and private investments that have not been tried since the 1970s. The North Fluminense region is the second region in the allocation of funds for major engineering works in the state: ports, taxiways, railroads. São João da Barra, one of the nine municipalities of the region, has been chosen as the locus of the Açu Superport project since 2007, a port and industrial port belonging to the EBX Group. Such construction has triggered social, environmental and political conflicts in the region. This work intends to understand how the recent transformations are being reflected in the fishing activity of the municipality, having as central guiding question: what are the implications of these projects in the activity of artisanal fishermen of São João da Barra that may accentuate possible social vulnerabilities or even even extinguish the activity in the municipality? The objective is to characterize the figure of the artisanal fisherman, to map the continental agglomeration of these individuals, to investigate the possibility of dispute for "fishing territories" between those who historically exercised the activity and the new actors, besides bringing the main dilemmas and challenges, still in their perspective, regarding the continuation of the impacts that have been suffering since the beginning of the works.
