Percepção visual de obras concretistas: um olhar sobre a abstração de formas geométricas

Abstract

This work is part of the scope of studies in visual perception, insofar as it takes as its object the way in which concepts dear to this field of knowledge can be glimpsed from the analysis of concrete works and responses to perception tests. Its objective is to presuppose aspects related to the perception of spaces, bi and three-dimensionality, the emergence of geometric shapes and movements and illusionism in works belonging to the concrete artistic movement, developed from the second half of the 20th century onwards. In order to do so, it starts from the theoretical framework of the studies of visual perception with a view to the articulation between theoretical-critical reflections on stylistics and perception. In terms of methodological choices, the work comprises: (i) literature review based on the theoretical framework listed; (ii) survey and critical analysis of concrete works in terms of illusionist aesthetics; (iii) production and application of an experimental test of visual perception of these same materials; and (iv) qualitative analysis of the results of these collected instruments. Thus, we intend to make appreciative considerations about the abstraction of creative processes involving geometric shapes noted in concrete works in two instances, namely: (a) from the point of view of the theoretical framework to be used; and (b) from the spectators' point of view, understanding that the process of perception/interpretation of ambiguous images occurs from the realities of individuals that interfere in the process of visual apprehension. The work, therefore, corroborates discussions capable of elevating studies in geometric representation techniques to contexts endowed with greater explanatory potential in the field of art and its interfaces.
