Resumo

This research aims to understand the experience of women mothers of premature babies based on the investigation of their subjective effects in the postpartum period, particularly after the babies are discharged from the ICU. This is a descriptive qualitative study based on data from interviews of women whose premature births with up to 34 weeks of gestation with babies treated at the ICU and followed up by the team from the follow-up clinic of the Maternity School at UFRJ. For data collection, a script of semi-structured interview designed for this research. The women's reports were analyzed using Bardin's Content Analysis Methodology and, using Psychoanalysis as a theoretical framework, three categories were proposed: 1) Differences between premature and full-term infants; 2) Abrupt separation between mother/baby; 3) Impacts of prematurity after discharge. Based on the results, premature birth was considered a potentially traumatic event for the woman, reflecting on her relationship with the baby and on the your life as a whole. Therefore, the importance of the multidisciplinary team is highlighted to offer a listening work that includes the word and uses it as an instrument to address the traumatic content and its effects, minimally symbolizing it.
