A cuidadora familiar da pessoa com deficiência psicossocial: uma perspectiva sobre sua invisibilidade social

Abstract

This academic work seeks to give visibility to the group of family caregivers of people with psychosocial disabilities. Despite the undeniable importance of care work, not only for the people who depend on it, but for society, it is notorious how the term ‘invisibility’ is commonly found in the literature that deals with the subject. In this sense, care directed at people with psychosocial disabilities deserves special attention, as it brings together different issues regarding the theme of invisibility, such as the stigma in relation to people diagnosed with mental disorders and the devaluation of care itself. Such invisibility is due to the overlapping of several factors that devalue the identity of those who provide care and which will be investigated in this dissertation, seeking the causes and consequences of invisibility in the lives of women who provide care, especially in relation to their human dignity. Then the aim is to point out a possible perspective on the social invisibility of caregivers, based mainly on Phenomenology and Critical Theory, so that it is possible to analyze the hypothesis that social invisibility prevents caregivers from enjoying a dignified life.
