Abstract

It intends to approach how the representations of requalification of the urban space concern the new images and discourses about the city of Rio de Janeiro, in the periods that comprise the preparations for Rio 2016. During the period of the great demonstrations that took place in different parts of the country, here in Rio de Janeiro, I followed this story with my camera. Parallel to this, sought to photograph the works and the transformations that the city had been receiving. decided walk along the avenue Perimetral, to take pictures before its implosion. Over time, little by little, he made visits to the place, today called “Porto Maravilha”. When the port region began to take shape and gain its new equipment and urban design, I started to photograph what was being offered in the place. With the serious financial crisis in Rio de Janeiro, it was easy to understand that the revitalization of the port region would leave room for critical interpretations and forceful, because the tendency of administrators, almost globally, is meet the demands of capital, which increasingly needs to change its investments and use urban spaces for short-term returns.
