As vozes do horto: racismo ambiental e o caso da Comunidade do Horto Florestal

Abstract

This paper discusses the theory of environmental racism and the process of remova} experienced by the Horto Florestal Community, Iocated in the Southem Zone of the City ofRio de Janeiro. Based on two arguments: (i) the incidence ofthe environmental racism on the community and (ii) the non-existence of a conflict between the permanence of the families and the preservation of the environment, this article tries to demonstrate the fallacious narrative used by the Public Power in the processes of removal. Finally, interviews are used in depth and structured to highlight the narrative of the residents who are treated as invaders of the Iands where they reside, concluding, in the end, that in this case there is no conflict between preservation and the environment. Methodologically, the research made use of in-depth interviews with two locais who in their histories demonstrate that the history of the community walks along with the preservation of nature.
