Estudio temporal de la diversidad espacial botánica de los jardines patrimoniales de Burle Marx en el IPPMG-UFRJ, Brasil

Abstract

The purpose of this article was to highlight the importance of preserving the work of Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx, based on the study of the transformations of the botanical diversity originally proposed in his 1952 landscape project for the Martagão Gesteira Institute of Child Care and Pediatrics IPPMG, of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ. From this work, we sought to study ways to establish criteria for intervention in the landscape and restoration of a living heritage in constant transformation. Over time these gardens have undergone structural modifications that greatly compromise their integrity. In methodological terms, the research conducted a comparative analysis between the vegetation proposed by Burle Marx in the 1950s, the vegetation proposed for the renovation of the gardens by the Burle Marx Desk in 2014, and the current situation. The study revealed the great loss of botanical, structural and aesthetic quality over time, highlighting the importance of the recovery of Burle Marx’s landscape proposal, thus rescuing his legacy. The article concludes by pointing out criteria for the restoration of the landscape project, recognizing its value as one of the exceptional moments of Modern thought in Brazil.
