Resumo

This study is based on gepolymert matrices from alcaline activation of metakaolin, using sodium silicate and NaOh solution as activators. Two batches of metakaolin and natural sand were used to obtain the geopolymer pastes and mortars. Composites were obtained by adding 1.2, 1.8 and 2.4% of stainless steel fibers, in relation to the total volume of the mixture, aims of evaluates the influence of different contents of stainless steel fibers and their effect on the physical-mechanical performance of the composites. Matrices were tested under uniaxial comprehensive loads and flexural by four points bending tests. The geopolymer networks were confirmed by XRD and FTIR analysis. Metakaolin-based geopolymer pastes and mortars presented typical mechanical properties, wuth uniaxial compressive strengths ranging from 33 to 50 MPa and flexural tensile strength ranging from 1.5 to 12 MPa, suggesting that these materials are suitable to replace OPC systems in structural applications.
