Referencial de cidade e ensino: uma revisão necessária

Abstract

The paper intends to problematize the reference of city currently used by the teaching of urbanism and to defend an alternative that can help face the challenges posed by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, when applied to the Latin American urban reality. To do so, it starts from a critical analysis of urban interventions in Rio de Janeiro, tracing a link with the teaching of urbanism practiced in the school that is still an important curricular reference in Brazil. The argument in defense of an alternative city paradigm for the teaching of urbanism also uses the results of previous research based on the hypothesis of the relevance of a reinterpretation of modern urbanism projects to deal with the challenges of the contemporary city and the issue of the integration of its infrastructural components. As a result of this critical analysis of paradigms, it highlights several issues regarding the applicability and contradictions of some SDGs. It then concludes on the urgency of a review of the design references used in the teaching of urbanism, claiming for a more integrated approach between architecture, urbanism, infrastructure and territory that a less prejudiced look at the lessons of modern urbanism would allow to build.
