A colaboração de Lavoisier para o desenvolvimento da sociedade Industrial do século XIX: uma proposta de oficina temática

Abstract

The lack of interest by high school students regarding Natural Sciences, such as Chemistry, has challenged teachers to turn their classes more attractive to those students. As an example, despite the restriction of curricular structures, teachers have been trying to teach Chemistry in an interdisciplinary context. However, in many cases, the precariousness of working conditions, the lack of social contexts for the students as well as disciplines with excessive theory, are still factors promoting this lack of interest. In this way, the objective of this work is to describe the project, development, production, and realization of a Thematic Workshop called “A Química Mudando a Sociedade”. This project was performed with high school students from the “Colégio Militar do Rio de Janeiro” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Through the project, an interdisciplinary study was developed, investigating the relationship of scientific contributions, especially those of Antoine - Laurent Lavoisier (1743-1794), and the changes suffered by the 19th century’s society during the Industrial Revolution. Home schooling, through online classes, as well as the instruments to assess student learning as concept maps, were based in the Theory of Meaningful Learning initially proposed by David Ausubel (1918-2008). All the experience acquired through this Thematic Workshop was recorded on explanatory video-classed and an eBook, which is the product of this dissertation. This pedagogical project, even though not being mandatory in the school’s curricular structure, includes a broad set of skills, in the area of Natural Sciences, proposed as the Common National Curricular Base (Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BNCC) of the Ministry of Education from Brazil.
