Abstract

This article boards the formation of the affectionate bond between the mother and her baby in the situation of pre-term birth. Initially there is a short passage for the inquiries that treat the occurred modifications, along the history, in the importance given to the infant mortality and his relation with the motherly figure and the papers attributed to the woman/mother of the century XVIII to the century XX. From there is the concept of bond from his principal scholars and development of individual mental and relational processes. Finally, it presents a revision of the inquiries that tackle the difficulties survived by the mother to face itself with the reality of a premature birth and the consequent admission of her baby in an ICU neonatal. The process of mouming the baby conceived, the ambiguity of feelings and the challenge of taking notice emotionally of a real baby totally different from the wanted one form the cornerstone of this study.
