Resumo

This research presents a study of 17 soils from the State of Mato Grosso for use in layers of asphalt pavements. Twelve samples of fine textured soils and five laterites of the cities of Nova Mutum, Lucas do Rio Verde, Sorriso, Sinop and Alta Floresta were characterized, physically and mechanically. For the fine textured soils, particle size, expansibility, x-ray diffraction, immersion loss and miniature compaction were performed, the last two used for the MCT classification of the samples. For the laterites, in addition to these tests, absorption of the granular fraction and the description of the morphological profile of the deposits were carried out. The mechanical characterization was performed with the resilient modulus and permanent deformation tests. With the results of these tests, pavement structures dimensioned with MeDiNa software are proposed. The analysis carried out show that these soils of Mato Grosso exhibit good mechanical behaviour for direct use in base and subbase layers of asphaltic pavements up to a certain level of traffic. The permanent deformation tests show satisfactory behavior with plastic accommodation for sixteen studied soils. The MCT classification showed a good correlation with the mechanical parameters of the soil. The structures designed by the MeDiNa software compose a catalogue of suggestions of combinations of materials that can be used for new pavements.
