Prescrição de fórmulas lácteas no centro obstétrico e alojamento conjunto em uma maternidade pública e amiga da criança

Abstract

Although the practice of breastfeeding has been growing in Brazil, its duration is still far below the WHO recommendation. Many children are exposed to formula milk while still in the maternity ward, which can lead to early weaning. The recommendation is that the child be breastfed from the first hour of life and as often as they want, on demand. The purpose of the work was to quantify the number and describe the reasons for prescriptions of milk formulas already in the obstetric center and in the joint accommodation of a public and child-friendly maternity hospital, from January to December 2022, in order to support, promote and protect the supply of human milk to the newborn. The research was carried out at the Maternity School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro / ME-UFRJ. The sample was composed of information obtained from the registration forms “Request for supplement for newborns and infants to the Nutrition Service” (Annex I), referring to the period between January and December 2022. 426 registration forms were selected, of which, 76 were excluded as they did not meet the inclusion criteria. Therefore, the sample was made up of information obtained from 350 records of NBs that met the inclusion criteria. According to the data collected, ME UFRJ maintains the margin recommended by the BFHI Global Criteria, with an average for the year 2022 of 24 .8% of infant formulas offered within the research parameters, however, is on the threshold and could improve this index.
