Trabalho feminino na Hispânia romana: preconceitos e resgates

Abstract

Much has been written about gender in the Roman world. However, something seems to be missing: the role played by women in the economic production of this society. Past, present or future, women constitute at least half of the population around the globe, an indispensable workforce, whether in ancient or modern societies. We know that, since the beginning of time, most women have been subjected to hard work, in the form of tiring and repetitive tasks, imposed arbitrarily. Such activities began in childhood and never received due recognition. The objective of this work is, therefore, to recover the role of women's work in the economies of Roman Hispania, with special attention to the case of Tarraco, between the end of the Republic and the Principate, raising local and other subsidies to demonstrate the role played by women in the economic production of Roman society.
