Resumo

This is a Course Conclusion Paper of the Multidisciplinary Residency in Perinatal Health of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. The interest and the initiative by theme emerged from the experience with the setting of the delivery room, observing and dealing with anxiety, fear and anxiety of pregnant women in labor, and how the presence of the companion can influence vaginal delivery time. Thus, the overall objective of the study is to analyze if the companion presence influences the duration of labor, since the beginning of its active phase until the birth of the fetus. The specific objectives are: to evaluate the duration of labor of spontaneous onset with or without companion, in the usual risk primiparous and singleton term pregnancy; compare the average of labor time between the pregnant group with and without companion. It is a quantitative study. The data collection was carried out by active search of the medical records of women with first and singleton pregnancy at term, with spontaneous onset of labor. The results of the study, due to lack of qualitative data, were inconclusive regarding the humanization and duration of delivery due to the presence or absence of the companion because the amount of primiparous unaccompanied was negligible compared with the chaperone. A qualitative research justify how the accompanying help in the reduction of the labor time.
