Abstract

This work initiates with a review of some important issues related to oedometer consolidation test procedures. In addition, a comparison of conventional test with TRICON consolidation tests is also presented. Monotonic increasing with time loading consolidation tests are subsequently reviewed with especial attention to the type whose rate of strain remains constant. Equipment, automated data acquisition system and procedures used to perform constant rate of strain consolidation tests are also described. Particular emphasis is given to a proposed method to define the velocity to be used in these tests. Finally, the results of constant rate of strain consolidation tests are compared to conventional consolidation tests one’s.
