Índice PUFA/pufa: guia para avaliação clínica das consequências de lesões de cárie não tratadas

Abstract

Given the severe consequences of untreated dental caries, such as dental emergencies and hospitalizations, an illustrated clinical guide on the pufa/PUFA index was developed to assist dentists in identifying and managing oral lesions caused by this condition. The guide was created based on a bibliographic review and protocols regarding the pufa/PUFA index, which were revised, improved, and organized to enhance usability. The topics approached include: a) definition; b) objectives; c) application of the PUFA index in clinical practice; d) clinical examination: steps and techniques; e) data recording and interpretation; f) benefits and limitations; g) examples; and h) references. Therefore, the present material enables the wide dissemination of the index, serving as a permanent, freely accessible reference resource.
