A questão habitacional e seus agentes: um estudo sobre os conjuntos Cruzada São Sebastião e Cidade Alta

Abstract

This work is an analysis on the housing issue in the twentieth century. The first part consists in showing the production and appropriation of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Found that housing problem was driven by intensive growth of the city, where the poor were deprived of getting basic conditions of urbanity, as the appropriation of this space was mainly through the market, resulting in problems for those who could not afford housing. The second part of the paper presents how the Catholic Church and the State analyzed the housing issue and what solutions were identified - whether urbanization or the eradication of slums - whose ideals are represented by examples of housing Crusade and San Sebastian City High. To compose the work we conducted a survey of both the existing literature on the subject as the newspaper reports of the time as the "Morning Post" and "Diary of Rio de Janeiro." At methodology was increased participant observation.
