This report provides a comprehensive overview of the understanding of modeling and design in complex computational systems. The theoretical foundation is consolidated in methodologies that meet, support tasks and take cognitive aspects into account in its architecture. The research is consolidated in reading the book “Knowledge in Construction: from Jean Piaget's formulations to the theory of complex systems” by Rolando Garcia. Two models were developed to treat and access distributed and heterogeneous environments. In the first, a distance learning environment, based on the Center for Distance Education of the State of Rio de Janeiro (CEDERJ). This was modeled as a complex system, so that risk situations were simulated where their impacts were identified and proposed actions to reduce or eliminate them. In this context, the actors (roles) interacting with the system were identified, the processes mapped, the subsystems identified and the main system variables declared. This process was based on the work of researchers in distance education, complex systems and complexity, such as: Bielschowsky, Bergman, Martinazzo, Prado Junior, Eliasquevice, Guimarães, Dourado, Santiago, Morin, Holanda, Pinheiro, Pagliuca, Laguardia, Casanova, Machado, Griebeler, Palazzo, Vargas, Trinity, Gouveia and Farias. The second model aims to validate the complex computational system proposed in the research by professor and scientist Dr. Carla Verônica Machado Marques, which originated the PhD Thesis EICA – Learning Cognitive Internal Structures: A Neuro-Computational Model to the Psychic Instance of the Person System in Dimensional spaces. To facilitate understanding we rely on the scientific studies of Franco Lo Presti Seminério and Barbel Inhelder. The two treatises described in this report serve as an instrument for research, analysis, comprehension, study of problem phenomena and solution of scientific complexity for computer modeling, besides helping other studies, motivating the exploration of other areas and the contribution of new research.
