Saúde bucal na palma da mão: higiene bucal em libras

Abstract

The Oral Hygiene in Libras e-book, part of the Oral Health in the Palm of Your Hand series, aims to ensure linguistic and cultural accessibility for the Deaf community on topics related to oral hygiene. It was developed through the Incluir_Odonto Project and the Professional Master’s Program in Dentistry at the School of Dentistry of UFRJ. The content is based on scientific literature, validated by experts, and reviewed by members of the Deaf community. With accessible visual language, explanatory illustrations, and full translation into Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), each page of the e-book features an interactive icon linking to YouTube videos with Libras interpretation. It also includes demonstrative audiovisual content, such as step-by-step tooth brushing instructions. The content ranges from identifying the structures of the mouth to practical guidance on brushing techniques, flossing, toothbrush selection, and the importance of fluoride in preventing oral diseases. It is an educational and inclusive resource designed to promote oral health equitably, recognizing and valuing the communicational diversity of the Deaf population.
