A arte de Icoaraci: reinterpretação contemporânea da cerâmica márajoara

Abstract

This study aims at understanding the production of ceramics in the district of Icoaraci Belém, Pará, concerning the technical and sty1istic transformations re1ated to the contemporary re-interpretation of the archeological marajoara ceramics, whose meaning it is intencied to be revealed. In order to fulfill this task, we started off theoretical and methodological suggestions offered by Néstor Garcia Canclini who considering unsatisfactory the mere analysis of the product, points out at that examination of the process of production, circulation and consumption of the objects are also facts to be considered. There has been an increase of production which originat an stylistic and technical enrichment of the product and the production of ceramics has built a spirit of cooperation among the craftsmen that has immensely united the social group to which they belong.
