Lugares abandonados: decadência urbana e desolação na cidade

Abstract

The present article intends to elaborate a critical reflection on the abandoned places, seeking an understanding about the shattering of the built body in the city's urban network, the degradation of the built space, its origins and the symbolic representative meaning in the imaginary representation of the city in the cognitive urban memory. The study will be drawn from an introduction and the subsequent development of three parts namely: (i) processes and ruptures, (ii) symbolic representation of abandonment, (iii) liminal spaces and the urbex movement, followed by a final conclusion. Grounded in the light of a critical thought about the process of urban decay achieved in the abandonment of buildings, houses, places and cities, and that makes us susceptible of an impetus of subjectivity in the impressions of the city; residual concrete and urban ruins are embodied as subjects of cultural identity and tactile resonance of new arrangements in the morphology of spaces in contemporary urban territories.
