Perfil da gestação de mulheres submetidas previamente a cirurgia bariátrica atendidas na maternidade escola-UFRJ

Abstract

Introduction: Post-bariatric gestation brings a series of questions about its effects on the pregnant woman's health and the concept. Objective: To trace the gestation profile of women submitted to bariatric surgery attended at a public maternity hospital in Rio de Janeiro. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with 11 pregnant women who underwent bariatric surgery before pregnancy and were attended at a public maternity hospital in Rio de Janeiro. Data on maternal anthropometry and laboratory tests, gestational intercurrences and perinatal outcome were obtained. Results: Regarding the surgical technique, it was observed that 63.6% of the sample was submitted to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and 36.4% underwent vertical sleeve gastrectomy. The interval between the surgery and the pregnancy influenced significantly the total pregnancy weight gains. Regarding maternal anthropometry, 63.7% presented prepregnancy nutritional status of obesity and only 27.3% presented appropriate weight gain. It was also observed high rates of gestational diabetes - GDM (27.3%), preeclampsia (27.3%), urinary tract infection (36.4%), anaemia and deficiency of protein, calcium, and vitamin D and B12. As for the newborns, high rates were found for small for gestational age (SGA, 27.3%) and large for gestational age (LGA, 18.2%). Conclusions: A high prevalence of pre-gestational weight deviation was observed, since most of the pregnant women started gestation with obesity, which may have influenced the prevalence of gestational intercurrences. There was also a high prevalence of SGA and LGA. The results suggest the need for a prenatal care conducted by a multiprofessional team and may help the institution to formulate a more specific nutritional monitoring protocol for this population.
