Resumo

This research consists of a study on the types of ethé projected by students in literacy acquisition and those who have already become literate in Youth and Adult Education (YAE) in 43 interviews, taking as a reference the words (especially nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs), expressions and statements that help to construct, through language and discourse, the ethé of YAE students. In the specific case of this corpus, the aim is to make visible the discourse produced by YAE students, since this discourse represents the social and discursive roles assumed by individuals and how these subjects identify themselves and interact with the environment in which they live. To this end, it primarily relies on the contributions of Patrick Charaudeau's Semiolinguistic Theory of Discourse (2017, 2018, 2019), complemented by other theorists who foreground the Theory of Social Representations and the study of ethos, such as Moscovici (2015); Amossy (2016, 2020; 2022); Maingueneau (2015, 2016, 2019, 2020); respectively. This research analysis reveals an ethos constructed by students in the process of literacy acquisition that exposes discursive images of stereotypes, stigma, and verbal violence present in the socio-discursive imaginary, which differs from the ethos constructed by literate students. Therefore, the study sought to verify the linguistic-discursive choices in diferente types of discursive ethé, through a qualitative analysis, as well as to describe the discursive phenomenon of ethos, through a quantitative analysis, considering its relationship with the representation of YAE subjects’ identities.
